Sir Alex Ferguson has praised his Manchester United scouts for securing the signing of Javier Hernandez before the World Cup. SAF thinks United signed the Mexican star (cheaply) before his price-tag went up.
Chicarito was relatively unknown before the World Cup. United spotted him and signed him for £7 million. His impressive performance at the World Cup was highly praised and his stunning strikes against France and Argentina proved he was special.
Sir Alex is pleased that his scouts were able to swoop on the young Mexican striker and bring him to Old Trafford. He said:
We were lucky that we identified him before the World Cup and got the deal the done. If we'd have waited until after the tournament he could have cost us maybe two to three times the money. It was good work by our scouting department - they did a really good job.
United are currently on their pre-season tour of America. They will play a friendly in Mexico against Chicarito’s former club Chivas on Friday night. This friendly match was a part of the deal while signing the Mexican striker.
To pay tribute to his old club, Chicarito will play for both United and his former club Chivas. He'll play against his old club in the first half and then play for them against United in the second.
Manchester United left for their pre-season tour this morning. They will be touring America as part of their Tour 2010 and Sir Alex has taken a 22-man squad to America.
In just a matter of hours, Manchester United will be touching down in North America to begin their pre-season tour. American fans will get an opportunity to relish the chance to see their Old Trafford heroes in action.
It has been six years since United ventured across the Atlantic and Mike Phelan expects Tour 2010 to be highly productive.
Gary Neville and Owen Hargreaves could not travel with their teammates as they suffered injuries last week. However, Sir Alex has picked a good mix of youth and experienced campaigners. The full squad that travelled to America includes:
Edwin van der Sar, Tomasz Kuszczak, Paul Scholes, Ryan Giggs, Dimitar Berbatov, John O'Shea, Wes Brown, Rafael, Jonny Evans, Darren Fletcher, Darron Gibson, Chris Smalling, Nani, Fabio, Federico Macheda, Danny Welbeck, Javier Hernandez, Mame Biram Diouf, Tom Cleverley, Ritchie De Laet, Corry Evans, Ben Amos, Gabriel Obertan.
The Red Devils will play their first game when they face Celtic in Toronto on Friday 16 July.
Manchester United will host a sponsored run around Old Trafford stadium on July 11, 2010 for hundreds of youngsters to raise money for their essential equipments.
An initiative that will provide a chance to raise cash for sports clubs across Manchester happens to fall on the final day of World Cup 2010. The event will take place before the Netherlands take on Spain in the World Cup 2010 final at Soccer City stadium in Johannesburg.
The sponsored run is divided into three categories with the under 8's kicking it off. It will then be followed by over 8’s and then open age youngsters who will run inside and outside of Old Trafford stadium.
This is a nice initiative by Manchester United which will allow the youngsters to collect cash for their essential equipment.
On Monday morning, Sir Alex will take his 22 man squad to America to begin their pre-season tour.
Manchester United has a new travel partner in the form of Thomas Cook Sport. The largest sports tour operator in the UK has signed a four year deal with the Red Devils recently.
After becoming the official travel partner of Manchester United, Thomas Cook Sport will provide worldwide travel for the first team and officials. It will also provide overseas travel to fans, including official travel packages to all of United’s away matches in the UEFA Champions League.
Talking about the new deal, David Gill, said: "Partnering with Thomas Cook, the best known name in travel, is a natural fit for our club and the benefits of this deal will result in a more complete travel service for the team, club officials and more importantly our millions of supporters across the globe."
Its surprising that Thomas Cook have partnered with Man United when they already have a deal with our arch rivals – Man City.
