Jan Vertonghen may be on his way to Machester United if certain reports are to be believed. The Belgian defender who currently plays for Ajax is the latest name on the shopping list of Sir Alex Ferguson.

Why is he linked to United?

  1. Jan Vertonghen is an utility player. He can play as a defender and occasionally as a defensive midfielder as well. Thats what he does for his club Ajax and the Belgian national team.
  2. He's a left-footed player who usually plays as a centre back, he is equally adept at playing anywhere on the left side or in defensive midfield and frequently joins in the attack from his centre back position.
  3. He's truly tall (6 ft 2 1⁄2 in) and strong in the air
  4. At 23, he's young and ready to play for United's first team
  5. He can be a good option to have considering Owen Hargreaves will be released by United and Wes Brown almost certain to leave the Red Devils this summer.
  6. He can be a long term replacement for Rio Ferdinand and can form a good partnership with the likes of Jonny Evans and Chris Smalling.

What do you think? Will Jan Vertonghen be arriving at Machester United this summer?
