Rio Ferdinand will be in the squad when Everton host Manchester United tomorrow. The 31 year old will play alongside Nemanja Vidic once again to keep Everton strikers at bay.
Rio had damaged his knee ligaments before this summer’s World Cup and has been out of action since then. He played in a reserve match against Oldham Athletic and looked fit and fine. Sir Alex chose to keep Rio out of the game against Stockport County this week after he excelled in training.
Speaking at a press conference today, Sir Alex said, “Rio is in the squad with three games this week, it is good that he is back.”
Everton, who have yet to register a Barclays Premier League win this season, will face an unbeaten Manchester United team at Goodison Park with full confidence. United got slaughtered by Toffees last season as they were handed a 3-1 defeat.
According to the stats, United have beaten the Toffees more times (27) in Premier League fixtures than any other club. Nevertheless, last season’s defeat would still be fresh in Sir Alex’s mind. He said,
Goodison Park is a hard place to go. It’s always a nightmare going there. The atmosphere is fantastic and we’ve had to deal with it for many years.
It would be a great game to watch after the international break. I hope Wayne Rooney plays and even better scores a goal and then runs to the Everton fans to silence them. That would be the best way for Wazza to forget his private life controversies and focus on repeating his last seasons’ heroics.
