Manchester United scored 5 wonderful goals against a hapless Wigan Athletic to draw level on points with leaders Manchester City on a busy afternoon of Boxing Day.

Ji Sung Park opened the scoring in the 8th minute before Berbatov made it 2-0 before the break. Conor Sammon was sent off for a wild attack on Carrick's face. Weird!

At the hour mark, Berbatov added another one to embarass Wigan as the Old Trafford crowd could sense a big victory coming. The players didn't disappoint them as Valencia scored at 75th minute before Berbatov completed his hat-trick by striking an elegant penalty to fox Wigan keeper.

This is a massive win, specially because last time we beat Fulham by the same scoreline. Are we going to see another 5 goal thriller against Blackburn on Dec 31?

United have now scored 16 goals in four straight league victories to pose a serious title challenge and narrow the goal difference between the two Manchester teams.

What really impressed me was we were able to score so freely given the makeshift nature of our team that Sir Alex put today.

I now want to see United score another 5 against Blackburn and hope Sunderland beat City so we can claim the top spot on the 1st day of 2012 and retain it till the end of the season.

Argentine playmaker Nicolas Gaitan is set to join Manchester United, hopefully next summer. He currently plays for Portuguese side Benfica and has even admitted to willingly join the Red Devils.

Gaitan's signing is not official yet but the deal looks almost done. The only problem to sign him is the €45 million release clause that is written into his contract, which United have refused to meet. Though they are willing to pay €35m to Benfica for availing the services of the 23 year old attacking midfielder.

Sir Alex Ferguson has reportedly said that he has always been a great fan of Gaitan, and describes him as the one who will re-ignite the Manchester United attack, after the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo and Carlos Tevez.

Interestingly, Gaitan's agent happens to be Jorge Mendes who has delivered Cristiano Ronaldo, Nani, Anderson, David de Gea and Bebe to Old Trafford in the past eight years. He is highly respected at Old Trafford and he is a major driver of Manchester United's transfer business.

If everything goes well between United and Benfica, Nicolas Gaitan should be a United player next June.
