Manchester United had something to cheer about after their derby defeat to Man City in the FA Cup as four of their players were included in the 2010-11 PFA Premier League Team of the Year.
The players who made it to the starting eleven include - Edwin van der Sar, Nemanja Vidic, Nani and Premier League top goalscorer Dimitar Berbatov.
Jack Wilshere won PFA Young Player of the Year while Gareth Bale was named PFA Player of the Year.
Here's the complete list of PFA's Premier League Team of the Year:
Van der Sar (Man Utd); Sagna (Arsenal), Vidic (Man Utd), Kompany (Man City), Cole (Chelsea); Nani (Man Utd), Nasri (Arsenal), Wilshere (Arsenal), Bale (Tottenham); Tevez (Man City), Berbatov (Man Utd).
Wayne Rooney scored a sensational four-timer to send Manchester United top of the Premier League as the Red Devils beat Hull 4-0. Everyone is praising Rooney for his solo efforts (even I admire that) but I think this game provided some other good news as well.
Return of Rio Ferdinand
The game against Hull marked the return of Rio Ferdinand after a 3 month long absence. The United skipper had been out of action since October 2009 and was ruled out until 2010. However he marked his return and played the entire 90 minutes which did look as if Rio has retained his form and could help his manager who is worried about their defense.
I am glad Rio returned at the right time as he may be handed the responsibility to monitor Carlos Tevez when United face City in the Carling Cup semi final.
Michael Owen got a start
I was initially surprised to see Owen starting, especially after the awesome form which Berbatov had shown in the previous games. But Fergie wants to help Owen to get on the plane to South Africa and hence he paired the two English strikers up front.
To be honest, Owen did look fine. Though he missed some easy chances which came his way but overall I think he played fine. And when Rooney is scoring goals for fun, his striking partner has to act as a mere supporter by making assists.
Nani may have OT future
I don't know what others thought but I think Nani had a fantastic game against Hull at a mutinous Old Trafford. After his bust up with Sir Alex Ferguson, I thought the Portuguese will never feature for United, but he has featured in a few games. And his performance against Hull was one of his best ever at OT. Probably, Nani has future at Manchester United.
Rooney, Rooney, Rooney, Rooney
That's how the score sheet looked featuring the name of Wayne Rooney who scored all four goals for Manchester United. The wonder kid took his goals tally for the season to 20 in 28 matches and is just three short of his best-ever return.
The return of VDS, Ferdinand and Evans does make the back four much stronger. Is this the time that things will start to turn in United's favor? What say folks?
2 days. That's the time Fergie took to seal the fate of Nani. Recently, Nani had a stupid public outburst against Sir Alex Ferguson and it is rumoured that the Portuguese may be on his way to Italy.
The Portuguese winger did not mince his words in an interview with a newspaper and that has probably left Ferguson furious. The United boss is already facing some serious issues that include
a). Losing the top spot with defeats at Liverpool & Chelsea
b). Injuries to center backs - Vidic & Ferdinand
c). Touchline ban following the Alan Wiley episode.
Nani had expressed his displeasure at the situation in Old Trafford due to his lack of chances and even went on to say that Sir Alex Ferguson has destroyed his career. He said,
Ferguson is a very complicated man. He's tough. If things are all right, then they are all right. But when he thinks something is wrong, everything is screwed. He can go from complimenting you to just plain trashing you in a matter of minutes. Has it happened to me? Hell, yes! He'll say 'Nani, how could you miss this or this'?
He shouts at players in front of everyone. No one escapes, everybody is the same. Giggs and Neville suffer most, because they have more experience. It is 'F**k' here and 'F**k' there.
In spite of knowing this was not the right time, Nani let out his frustration in public and criticized the most decorated football manager. Duh. I think Nani was insane. He could have talked with Fergie in private. Was he trying to emulate Carlos Tevez?
Well, if that was the case, then just like Tevez was shipped to City, Nani might be on his way to Italy. Juventus and AC Milan have allegedly shown interest in the winger and a transfer may be on the cards when the January window opens.
Nobody has ever escaped unhurt after messing with Fergie. Jaap Stam, David Beckham, Fabian Barthez and Roy Keane are some famous examples who were shown the exit doors at Old Trafford after their bust up with Fergie.
And to be honest, Nani has not really lived up to the hype when he arrived. If we leave aside his somersaults, Nani has struggled with his performances. Even after the departure of CR7, he has not been able to command a regular place in the starting eleven, scoring just one goal against his name this season.
Good Bye Nani. You don't deserve to play for United. Maybe you should skip the flight and use your somersaults while moving from England to Italy because that's the only thing you are good at.
