David De Gea has vowed Manchester United will play in a European competition next season, not the Champions League but the Europa League.
The young Spainard was named as United's Player of the Month for March after picking up 61 per cent of fans' votes to finish ahead of Wayne Rooney and Phil Jones. While accepting the award he acknowledged he has gained lot of confidence, consistency and stability in his performances this season as compared to the last one.
He also stressed United will try their best to win the remaining five games to finish this season in a stronger position. He said,
There are still plenty of important games to play. We are Manchester United and it's our duty to win every game we take part in. That's what we'll try to do now because we want to finish as high as we can in the league, ensure we're playing in a European competition next season and show we are still around and that we will never give in.
At this point, it looks clear that United won't play Champions League football next season, but the Europa League is still a realistic target. I hope Moyes inspires United to win the remaining five games and finish the 2013/14 season on a high, which means qualifying for next season's Europa League.
