The transfer of Alexander Büttner to Manchester United had surprised lot of people. Not just fans and football pundits but even a few managers. After all, nobody saw it coming... but that's how Sir Alex likes to work in the transfer market.

In the past few years, Sir Alex has consistently bought in young players who shocked themselves by being bought by a club like Manchester United. Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez, Mame Biram Diouf, Bebe and now Buttner are all recent examples.

Coming back to the transfer of Buttner, Sir Alex recently revealed the real reason for securing his transfer was to prevent Buttner from moving elsewhere.

Sir Alex revealed how he had to make a dramatic swoop last weekend to strike a deal with Vitesse Arnhem,
Southampton, Fulham and another club made bids and he was close to a move. We’d been monitoring the situation when he turned down Southampton, but we thought it was going to be pretty pricey. However, his contract was up next year so we moved in on the Thursday or Friday. We had to do it quickly.

He further added,
Büttner is capable of providing a goal threat from left-back after initially playing further up the field."Alex has made good progress in the last year and is on the verge of the Dutch national team. He’s a good last third of the field player who makes chances and can score goals. He’s scored five or six goals last season which, for a full-back, is quite good. We’re delighted to have him here.

If Buttner stays injury-free and produces good performances, he'll surely give a solid competition to Patrice Evra who has been playing like a soldier for United for the last five years.

The ultimate outcome is... United's future is secured.
