It's confirmed! Louis van Gaal has been named Manchester United manager.
He will quit his current role as National coach for Holland after the 2014 FIFA World Cup and lead the Red Devils from the 2014/15 season after signing a three year contract with United.
As expected, Ryan Giggs will be assistant manager of Manchester United after announcing his retirement from professional football today. Frans Hoek (Netherlands' goalkeeping coach) and Marcel Bout (specialising in opposition scouting) will join van Gaal as assistant coaches.
Manchester United chief executive Ed Woodward praised the Dutchman saying,
In Louis van Gaal, we have secured the services of one of the outstanding managers in the game today. He has achieved many things in his career to date and Old Trafford provides him with a fitting stage on which to write new chapters in the Manchester United story.
On being named United manager, Louis van Gaal said:
It was always a wish for me to work in the Premier League. To work as a manager for Manchester United, the biggest club in the world, makes me very proud. I have managed in games at Old Trafford before and know what an incredible arena Old Trafford is and how passionate and knowledgeable the fans are. This club has big ambitions; I too have big ambitions. Together I'm sure we will make history.
Let us hope van Gaal inspires Man United to play confident and skillful football and helps the club to win trophies on a regular basis.
Welcome to Manchester United, Louis van Gaal.
