Paul Scholes pays tribute to Carrington

Paul Scholes has paid tribute to the facilities at Carrington. He said, "Everything can be done here that is needed to support a football team."

Paul hailed Carrington while he was speaking about the inner workings of the training complex during an exclusive MUTV programme - Inside Carrington.

He further said, "Having the Academy here is great and it's all geared towards a family feel and I'm sure that's the way the manager wants it. Players are able to maintain their fitness when injured, even after operations, due to the high-tech facilities at Carrington."

Paul Scholes announced his retirement earlier this year. His last appearance in the United shirt was during his testimonial game. Since then Paul has started his coaching career at the Manchester United.

Are Fergie's Fledglings fit for Premier League?

Manchester United skipper Gary Neville has appreciated the young Red Devils and believes they are competent enough to start in the Premier League. The veteran voiced his views after United knocked out Spurs from the Carling Cup at Old Trafford.

Sir Alex Ferguson had fielded a less experienced side to what he normally does in the tournament, signaling a possible new era of Fergies Fledglings. The surprising Champions League defeat to Besiktas last week saw some pundits criticizing Fergie's fledglings for their lethargic performance. But Fergie kept faith in his youngsters and they paid it back when Darren Gibson scored twice to ensure progression for United.

Gary Neville paid tribute to his team’s youngsters after watching a resilient performance in the Carling Cup tie at Old Trafford. The veteran believes that this current crop has what it takes to make a mark in the Premier League. He said, "I don't think they're younger players, they're playing for their countries. They deserve to be there by right. They are Premier League players of that quality, they are obviously developing."

It will be interesting to see whether the current group of Fergies Fledglings is able to emulate the success of their seniors. The current crop of players include Darren Gibson, Danny Welbeck, Gabriel Obertan and Ritchie de Laet. Their seniors and probably the best ever Fergies Fledglings included Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes, David Beckham, Nicky Butt and the Neville brothers.

United sees off Fulham 3-0.

Premier League leaders Manchester United stretched their lead to five points after disposing of Fulham at the Theatre of Dreams. Goals from Scholes, Berbatov and Rooney made the scoreline read 3-0 in favor of the home team.

Sir Alex had used his usual starting eleven in the team, whereas I thought he would use some youngsters. But then the experience began to show as United dominated the game right from the start. Paul Scholes superb 25 yard volley was saved by Cottagers goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer, only to see it spin back into the net. That was it. The opening goal in the 12th minute provided the perfect launch pad for United as they kept looking for another goal. An imperious passing move consisting of 20-30 passes from the home side allowed Dimitar Berbatov to slot in a second when the clock read 30 minutes. Carrick, Berbatov and Ronaldo kept on attacking but could not find the net.

Wonder kid Wayne Rooney came off the bench to tap in Ji-Sung Park's cross at the far post and round off a one-sided victory. United made full use of their game in hand over their title rivals, with Liverpool 5 points adrift of them, Aston Villa eight and Chelsea 10 points. Another impressive feat was United maintained their 14 consecutive clean sheet in the league.

Scholes poised for early return

Veteran midfielder Paul Scholes is in line for a surprise early return. The Manchester United midfielder was not thought likely to return from knee surgery until Saturday at the earliest, but such has been the 34-year-old's impressive performance on the United training ground that Sir Alex Ferguson has decided to name him on the bench.

Sir Alex said, "I have Paul Scholes in mind, he is on the verge of playing again following his operation. He is training well and chomping at the bit to get started. A place on the bench with perhaps a few minutes' pitch time could be good for him. We will see how things go."

Scholes has not been involved with the Red Devils senior squad since damaging knee ligaments in the Champions League win over Aalborg at the end of September. The absence of Scholes and Hargreaves was felt in October, when even Carrick and Ronaldo were out with some knocks. But everything seems to be very promising in the United midfield now. And with younger players like Jonny Evans, Rafael, Darron Gibson, Rodrigo Possebon and Danny Welbeck, United truly have the caliber to win in the long run.
