Manchester United Soccer School has started functioning inside Cooperge football ground in Mumbai, India. This soccer school has an artificial turf and aims to train the children in exactly the same way as MU Academy does in its home base in the UK.
A first of its kind in India, Manchester United Soccer School was set up in Mumbai in November 2011 in tie-up with WIFA. Its reported that the entire cost of the floodlights in four corners of the main turf as well as the turf have been borne by FIFA, while the cost of laying the smaller turfs for children is borne by Manchester United FC.
Manchester United Soccer School plan to run a number of courses from the Mumbai base over the coming years, placing great importance on football development but also on enjoying the game. It’s a message that has been taken all around the world by MUSS over the past decade.
The school charges Rs 12,600 per student for their five-week module training. The school reports they have enrolled 300 children for the first module.
During the launch of Manchester United Soccer School in Mumbai, two Red Devils, Denis Irwin and Quinton Fortune took part in a training session with the children. Gary Neville also made a visit later to interact with the kids and teach them new skills.
I hope this Mumbai based Manchester United Soccer School not only provide a positive learning experience for its enrolees but actually helps to produce some talented football players who can represent India at the international level.
